WLSSD Facilities Open during Ramp Closures
DULUTH, MN – Residents and businesses in the region will continue to have access to Western Lake Superior Sanitary District (WLSSD) facilities during road construction on I35 this summer. MNDOT construction crews will close northbound on and off ramps at 27th Ave West beginning July 25th as the next part of the Twin Ports Interchange project gets underway. Ramps are expected to be closed for one month.
“It will be a little bit tricky to get to us at times; there will be controlled stop-and-go traffic through the ramp intersection,” said Marianne Bohren, WLSSD executive director. “Our Household Hazardous Waste Facility and Yard Waste Compost Site will continue to operate as normal throughout the ramp closures. Residents should follow detour signs for access to WLSSD facilities.
WLSSD’s 40-acre campus at 27th Avenue West houses the regional wastewater treatment plant as well as the regional Solid Waste Transfer Station that moves about 100,000 tons of the region’s solid waste each year. Also at 27th Avenue West are popular WLSSD’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility and Yard Waste Compost Site. About 20,000 customers visit each of these facilities every year.
Western Lake Superior Sanitary District provides award-winning wastewater and solid waste services to residents, businesses and industries within its 530-square-mile legislative boundaries in southern St. Louis and northern Carlton counties and is a nationally recognized leader in pollution prevention.
