Using the Yard Waste Compost Site
IMPORTANT NOTICES:
The Yard Waste Compost Site is opening Wednesday, April 15th! Bring us your yard waste! Bulk compost will be available to purchase. Bagged compost will not be available until future notice. Please return to this webpage for updates.
The Yard Waste Compost Site is open seasonally, typically the third week in April through the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving. Please return to this site for spring opening and fall closure announcements. Drop off your grass clippings, leaves, garden debris, brush, logs, and small quantities of sod and dirt. The site is located on Courtland Street, off Interstate 35 at 27th Avenue West and the waterfront in Duluth.
It’s easy! Just stop at the attendant’s station so staff can examine your load of yard debris and provide a receipt for fees collected. The Yard Waste Compost Site can accommodate dump trailers on a limited basis.
Minnesota law (MN Statute 115A.931) prohibits yard waste in the garbage since 1990. Resource Renew’s Yard Waste Compost Site provides a cost-effective way for residents to manage this waste. Several local garbage haulers provide seasonal curbside collection of grass and leaves. Residents can also compost yard trimmings on their own.
