WLSSD’s Yard Waste Organics Compost Site will open this Saturday, April 20-21, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with limited services – leaves and brush drop off only, no compost sales.
The site will also be open the remaining Saturdays and Sundays in April (27-28), with compost sales and extended hours to come as demand and weather cooperate. Bagged compost is available for purchase at the Materials Recovery Center. Stay tuned for further updates.
WLSSD’s Yard Waste Compost Site is open seasonally (hours). Drop off your grass clippings, leaves, garden debris, brush, fresh-cut holiday trees and small quantities of sod and dirt. Purchase Garden Green® compost in 1 cubic foot bags and by the cubic yard. The site is located on Courtland Street off Interstate 35 at 27th Avenue West and the waterfront in Duluth, MN and is also a residential food waste drop site.
Its easy! Just stop at the attendant’s station so staff can examine your load of yard debris and provide a receipt for fees collected. Cash, check or credit cards (Visa, MasterCard and Discover) are accepted.
When the Yard Waste Compost Site is closed, residents can bring brush to WLSSD’s Materials Recovery Center (MRC) for a fee. The MRC also sells Garden Green® compost in 1 cubic foot bags and serves as a residential food waste drop site.
Minnesota law (MN Statute 115A.931) prohibits yard waste in the garbage since 1990. WLSSD’s Yard Waste Compost Site provides a cost-effective way for residents to manage this waste. Several local garbage haulers provide seasonal curbside collection of leaves and grass. Residents can also compost yard trimmings on their own.
