Do you know what it takes to make sure our waterways are protected after you flush the toilet? How about the fact that the same process to treat wastewater can also generate electricity? What REALLY happens to your recycling after it leaves the bin? Why does composting food waste even matter?
Join Resource Renew this summer for two days of teacher workshops that will explore how we all play a vital role in keeping our communities and environment healthy. These workshops are led by the Sustainability team who have backgrounds in teaching environmental science in K-12 settings, at the college level, and in informal education settings. Each day will include facility tours, hands on activities, a guest speaker, and a chance to learn about future career paths that can be shared to students.
Tuesday, June 23 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Explore how wastewater is treated to return clean water to our rivers and lakes, while capturing valuable resources and producing renewable energy.
Wednesday, June 24 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Discover how we manage solid waste with forward-thinking strategies, from upcycling and recycling to reducing landfill waste and championing sustainable practices.
Attendees can earn $500 towards classroom supplies upon completion of the workshop and incorporation of a lesson related to resource recovery and/or waste reduction into your classroom. Attendees can attend one or both days (total stipend won't exceed $500). Registration closes June 16th.
