WLSSD, Your One Stop Shop for Spring-Cleaning!

After having a winter that just would not quit, residents of the Northland are finally starting to get a taste of spring. For many, this time of year brings spring-cleaning with it. We have solutions for all your spring-cleaning needs!

-If you have unused or old chemicals lying around the house, come drop them off FOR FREE at our Household Hazardous Waste Facility, located at 2626 Courtland Street, Gate 9, Thursday – Saturday, 9am – 4pm.

-If you are doing work around the yard and need to get rid of brush, branches, or leaves, our Yard Waste site is just down the road from our Household Hazardous Waste facility, and is open Thursday – Monday, 9am – 4pm.

One of the easiest and most important types of waste to be considerate about during spring-cleaning is your household hazardous waste. Lots of common products like paints, cleaners, or automotive chemicals sit around in the house or garage all winter and go bad.

Though it might be tempting to just toss or pour that waste down the drain in order to expedite your cleaning, just remember that it all ends up at WLSSD’s wastewater treatment facility.
If you pour chemical waste down the drain, it comes directly to us. If you throw household chemicals in the trash, stormwater runoff from the landfill is collected and treated at our facility. While we are able to do a good job of cleaning most things out of the water, the process is not designed to remove things that shouldn’t be there in the first place.

Improper disposal of your household hazardous waste can cause environmental harm, that’s why it’s against the law! Thankfully, WLSSD’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility makes it easy for area residents to dispose of their unused wastes FREE!

And for most people, spring cleaning also includes some work around the yard. Make it easy on your cleaning regimen by bringing us your yard waste and hazardous waste at the same time! Do your part to help keep our communities clean and green by keeping WLSSD in mind for your spring-cleaning needs!
