Community Clean-Out

Resource Renew, the City of Duluth, and the City of Proctor are partnering to help local residents get rid of all their weird waste – whether it’s bulky, hazardous, or you’re just not sure where it belongs. These one-day drop-off events are free to residents of selected neighborhoods.

Sunday, September 28, 2025 – serving Far West Duluth (Fond du Lac, Gary-New Duluth, Morgan Park, Smithville, Riverside, Norton Park) and City of Proctor

Drop-off Location:
Materials Recovery Center

The timing of the event will be staggered to improve traffic flow. Please consult the map below; orange zone residents (Morgan Park, Gary-New Duluth, and Fond du Lac) can drop off from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; blue zone residents (Smithville, Riverside, Norton Park, and Proctor) can drop off from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Accepted Materials

  • Bulky mixed waste
    • Furniture, building materials
  • Hazardous Waste
    • Paint & stain*, automotive fluids*, fluorescent bulbs, batteries (excluding batteries for electric vehicles), medical sharps
      (*must be brought in a container you’re willing to let go of)
  • Electronics
    • TVs, computers, cell phones, game consoles, cords & chargers
  • Tires
  • Scrap metal
  • Appliances
  • Yard waste
    • Leaves, grass, brush
  • Film plastic
    • Grocery bags, zip top bags, bubble wrap, poly mailers, pallet wrap

Not accepted:

  • Household garbage
  • Dirt & root balls
  • Medications
  • Explosives & munitions
  • Waste from a business (other than a rental residence)

Pre-Sort your Waste for Easy Drop-Off:

This event will be organized into drive-through drop-off zones. For easy, efficient drop-off, please organize waste in your vehicle as follows:

  1. Bulky items (furniture, building materials), scrap metal, cardboard
  2. Tires, appliances, clean wood, yard waste (brush and branches)
  3. Household recycling (other than cardboard)
  4. Electronics & film plastic (bags, bubble wrap, etc), clothing & textiles
  5. Hazardous waste (paint, chemicals, fluorescent bulbs, batteries)

Shop the Free Store!

Furniture, home goods, paint & stain, and other designated items in good condition will be set aside for others to take home for free!
