25 Years of Composting Food Scraps

Duluth, MN— This year marks the 25th anniversary of composting food scraps with yard waste at Resource Renew. Resource Renew is celebrating its 25th composting anniversary May 6-9, during International Compost Awareness Week. Pop-up events at the Yard Waste Compost Site will be promoted daily on Facebook and Instagram, and residents can visit ResourceRenew.com for more information.
Composting food scraps instead of throwing them in the garbage helps to:

• Reduces greenhouse gas emissions from landfills
• Decreases the amount of trash in landfills
• Recycle organic matter and nutrients & return them to the soil
• Save costs by reducing household garbage (smaller waste container and/or fewer pickups)

Whether residents compost in their backyard or use Resource Renew’s Food Scraps Drop Sites Program, now is it good time to start composting to reduce the waste sent to the landfill. Residents can offset upcoming trash disposal increases by composting food scraps, separating film plastic for recycling and shoring up their at home recycling practices.
