Yard Waste Compost Site Expands Hours
to Accommodate Fall Cleanup Needs
Duluth, MN— Western Lake Superior Sanitary District’s Yard Waste Compost Site will expand its operating hours to 5 days a week for the remainder of October to accommodate increased residential disposal needs. During the special expanded hours the site will be open Thursday through Monday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Full Compost Site services will be available. Expanded hours will end after October 31.
“Many residents have particularly large amounts of yard cleanup to do in the fall,” said Heidi Ringhofer, WLSSD director of solid waste services. “We expanded our hours to make disposal more convenient for all the vegetative debris fall brings – leaves, garden waste, fruit and veggies, pumpkins and grass clippings. These items can be brought to the Yard Waste site for free. We also take brush at the Yard Waste Site and our Materials Recovery Center for a small fee to cover chipping costs. People can also get a jump on their spring gardening. Garden Green® compost is available in bags and in bulk by the yard. It’s a great time to add compost to garden beds.”
Regular Yard Waste Compost site hours will resume on November 1: open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and closed Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
