Yard Waste Compost Site Expands Hours for Fall Cleanup Needs

Duluth, MN— Western Lake Superior Sanitary District’s Yard Waste Compost Site will expand its operating hours to 5 days a week for the remainder of the season to accommodate increased residential disposal needs. During the special expanded hours the site will be open Thursday through Monday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Full Compost Site services will be available. Expanded hours will end when the facility closes for the season on Monday, November 16, 2020.

“Many residents have particularly large amounts of yard cleanup to do in the fall,” said Tim Lundell, WLSSD supervisor of solid waste services. “We expanded our hours to make disposal more convenient for all the vegetative debris fall brings – leaves, garden waste, fruit and veggies, pumpkins and grass clippings. These items can be brought to the Yard Waste site for free. We also take brush at the Yard Waste Site and our Materials Recovery Center for a small fee to cover chipping costs.”

WLSSD’s Yard waste compost site opens briefly in December and January for holiday tree disposal.  The facility will reopen in April 2021, or as weather permits.

Western Lake Superior Sanitary District provides award-winning wastewater and solid waste services to residents, businesses and industries within its 500 square mile legislative boundaries in southern St. Louis and northern Carlton counties, and is a nationally recognized leader in pollution prevention.
