Did you know WLSSD is now Resource Renew? Do you know what it takes to protect our waterways after you flush the toilet? Or that the same process used to treat wastewater can also generate electricity? What REALLY happens to your recycling after it’s picked up? And why does composting matter more than ever?
We’re excited to announce that registration is now open for Resource Renew Summer Teacher Workshops! Join us for two engaging days of hands-on learning, led by our Sustainability team—educators with experience in K-12 classrooms, higher education, and informal learning settings.
Tuesday, June 23 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Explore how wastewater is treated to return clean water to our rivers and lakes, while capturing valuable resources and producing renewable energy.
Wednesday, June 24 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Discover how we manage solid waste with forward-thinking strategies, from upcycling and recycling to reducing landfill waste and championing sustainable practices.
Each day will include facility tours, hands on activities, a guest speaker, and a chance to learn about future career paths that can be shared to students.
Teachers can attend one or both days, receive funding for STEAM supplies, and take home ready-to-use classroom resources to bring real-world environmental science into their teaching. Returning participants are welcome!
